Expert General and Hepatobiliary Surgeon in Cyprus | Specialized in Liver, Pancreatic & Cancer Surgery
I studied Medicine in the UK and qualified with a Bachelor in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB, University of Aberdeen) in 2007. I completed my 2-year hospital internship appointments (foundation training) in Scotland and subsequently moved to the north of England for a 2-year basic surgical training rotation (Yorkshire and Humber deanery). Upon completion of my basic surgical rotations I secured a place in the highly competitive 6-year National Training Programme for General Surgery in East of England (Training Number: EAN/021/00135C).
During my training period I declared a subspecialty interest in pancreatic, liver and transplant surgery and I was offered a training post in Addenbrooke’s hospital, Cambridge for 3 years. During my training tenure I was affiliated with the Cancer Research Institute (CRUK) in Cambridge conducting basic science experiments on the tumour immune properties of pancreatic cancer. My research tenure was funded by a grant offered by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. I gained entry on the UK’s specialist registry as a General Surgeon in 2022 after been awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons.
Upon completion of my higher surgical training, I pursued further sub-specialty training (fellowships) in advanced pancreatic, liver and liver transplant surgery in large hepatobiliary centres in Basingstoke, UK and the internationally renowned Liver Unit in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, UK, one of Europe’s largest hepatobiliary centres.
I moved to Cyprus in May 2024, and I am currently working as General/Hepatobiliary Surgeon at the German Medical Institute (previously known as German Oncology Centre) in Limassol.
In our Institute I am privileged to be working with colleagues from other cancer-related specialties (Oncology, Radiotherapy, Gastroenterology) and discuss all cancer patients on our weekly Tumour Board meeting so that we formulate the most appropriate treatment plan for each cancer patient.
In my clinical practice I see patients with the whole spectrum of pancreatic conditions (pancreatic cancer, pancreatic cysts, neuroendocrine tumours, pancreatitis) and liver related issues (liver metastases, primary liver cancers, liver cysts, bile duct cancers, complications related to liver transplantation). I perform major liver and pancreatic surgery with the laparoscopic approach when appropriate. I also see patients with general surgery conditions (gallstones, abdominal wall hernias, bowel pathology, lumps and bumps).
